Incident Summary
The pilot reported that during the landing, the airplane touched down on the first third of the runway. The brakes were applied, but the aircraft failed to slow sufficiently. Subsequently, the airplane departed the end of the runway, went down an embankment, and nosed over.
Damage
The accident resulted in substantial damage to the right wing and empennage. The pilot stated that there were no pre-impact mechanical failures or malfunctions involving the airframe or engine that would have precluded normal operation.
Eyewitness Account
An eyewitness to the landing reported that the pilot landed downwind and that the touchdown occurred approximately three-quarters of the way down the runway.
