Incident Overview
A pilot reported that during landing, the airplane's airspeed was too high. After making contact with the runway, the airplane bounced. Upon returning to the runway, the airplane was oriented 20 degrees to the right of the runway heading. The pilot applied the left brake to correct the alignment. This action caused the right main landing gear wheel to separate from the gear leg. The airplane then veered left into a ground loop.
Damage
Substantial damage occurred to the right wing and aileron. The pilot stated that there were no preimpact mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airframe or engine that would have precluded normal operation.
