Incident Overview
The pilot of an airplane reported that during the takeoff roll, the aircraft drifted left of the runway centerline. The left main landing gear then struck an unknown object located in tall grass adjacent to the runway. The pilot stated that he was unsure of the extent of the damage and proceeded to continue the aerial application flight.
Damage Discovery
During the subsequent landing, observers on the ground determined that the left main landing gear had been damaged. The pilot then diverted to an airport he deemed more suitable for an emergency landing.
Landing and Collapse
While landing at the diverted airport, the left main landing gear collapsed. This collapse caused substantial damage to the left wing of the airplane.
Mechanical Condition
The pilot reported that there were no pre-impact mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airframe or engine that would have precluded normal operation.
