On July 14, 2015, an Asiana Airlines Airbus A330-300 (HL8282) experienced No. 2 engine fire and oil pressure warnings shortly after takeoff from Incheon International Airport. The crew shut down the engine, returned for a single-engine landing, and subsequent inspection revealed thermal damage and sooting.

Incident

On July 14, 2015, at approximately 0832 universal coordinated time, an Airbus A330-300, registration HL8282, operated by Asiana Airlines, experienced No. 2 (right) engine fire and oil pressure warnings shortly after departure from Incheon International Airport (ICN) in Incheon, Republic of Korea. The aircraft was operating a regularly scheduled passenger flight to Tashkent Airport (TAS) in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Response

The flight crew responded by shutting down the No. 2 engine and returning to Incheon International Airport, where they conducted an uneventful single-engine landing.

Inspection

During a post-flight inspection of the No. 2 engine, thermal damage and sooting were observed along the bottom half of the engine and on the engine cowls.

Investigation

The Aviation and Railway Accident Investigation Board (KARAIB) of the Republic of Korea is conducting the investigation. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has appointed an accredited representative to assist KARAIB as the state of design of the airplane powerplants.
