What happened
On July 14, 2015, at approximately 0832 UTC, an Airbus A330-300, registration HL8282, operated by Asiana Airlines, encountered an engine fire and oil pressure warnings. The incident occurred shortly after the aircraft departed Incheon International Airport (ICN) in Incheon, Republic of Korea, while on a scheduled flight to Tashkent Airport (TAS) in Uzbekistan.
Following the warnings, the crew shut down the No. 2 (right) engine. The aircraft returned to Incheon International Airport and completed a single-engine landing without further incident. There were no injuries resulting from the event.
The investigation
An inspection of the No. 2 engine following the landing revealed thermal damage and sooting on the engine cowls and along the bottom half of the engine.
