On December 11, 2015, an Avianca Airbus A318-111 lost power from its No. 1 engine during climb from Bogota to Pasto. The crew shut down the engine and returned to Bogota without incident.

Incident Overview

On December 11, 2015, an Avianca Airbus A318-111, registered as N593EL and equipped with CFMI CFM56-5 engines, suffered a loss of power from the No. 1 (left) engine. The aircraft was operating as Avianca flight AV9398 from Bogota, Colombia to Pasto, Colombia. The loss of power occurred during the climb phase of the flight.

Crew Action

The flight crew responded by shutting down the affected engine. They then returned to Bogota, where the aircraft landed without further incident.
