Incident Notification
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) of the United Kingdom formally notified the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) of an incident that occurred on January 30, 2016. The incident involved a Boeing 747 airplane.
U.S. Involvement
In response to the notification, the NTSB appointed a U.S. Accredited Representative to participate in the investigation led by the AAIB. This appointment follows the provisions of ICAO Annex 13, which establishes the NTSB as the representative of the State of Manufacturer and Design for the Boeing 747.
Investigative Authority
The AAIB, as the aviation accident investigation authority of the United Kingdom, retains primary responsibility for the investigation. The NTSB will assist as requested. All information pertaining to the incident will be released by the AAIB in due course.
