Accident Summary
The accident occurred during the landing phase when the pilot was executing a landing flare. As the airplane approached the runway, the pilot inadvertently allowed the nose to drop, resulting in the nose wheel contacting the runway before the main landing gear. The nose wheel subsequently collapsed under the impact.
Runway Excursion
Following the collapse of the nose wheel, the airplane veered sharply to the left and departed the paved runway surface. It continued onto the grass adjacent to the runway, traveling approximately 75 feet before coming to a stop. During the excursion, the propeller dug into the terrain, and the left wing made contact with the ground.
Damage Assessment
The left wing sustained substantial damage as a result of the impact. No other damage was reported. The pilot did not report any mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
