Incident Overview
According to a telephone interview with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) Investigator-in-Charge (IIC), the pilot of the accident airplane reported that the aircraft touched down midfield during landing. The pilot stated that he recognized the aircraft would overrun the runway and therefore attempted to abort the landing. However, the airplane subsequently departed the runway and impacted the airport perimeter fence.
Damage and Mechanical Assessment
A postaccident examination revealed substantial damage to the fuselage. The pilot reported that there were no preimpact mechanical failures or malfunctions with either the airframe or the engine that would have precluded normal operation.
Pilot Reporting Compliance
After multiple requests from the NTSB, the pilot did not return the National Transportation Safety Board Form 6120.1 Pilot/Operator Aircraft Accident/Incident Report as requested.
Investigation Status
As of the time of the source information, the NTSB continues to investigate the circumstances of the accident. No further details regarding the aircraft type, operator, location, or injuries have been released.
