What happened
On July 2, 2016, at approximately 1810 UTC, a Cessna A188, registration HK1398, was involved in a fatal accident near Puerto Lopez, Colombia. The aircraft, operated by Comercializadora de Aviacion Agricola - ECO, was performing an aerial application flight under Colombian flight regulations.
The flight departed from the Pista Nueva York airstrip. After completing its agricultural spraying mission, the aircraft was returning to the airstrip when the right wing struck a utility tower located approximately 100 feet above the ground. Following the collision, the aircraft impacted the terrain, resulting in a post-crash fire. The pilot sustained 1 fatal injury.
