Overview
A pilot reported that during an approach to a private turf airstrip, he executed a slip to descend. After recovering from the slip, the airplane's nose was not aligned with the airstrip's heading, and this misalignment persisted at touchdown.
Landing Roll and Impact
During the landing roll, the pilot was unable to correct the airplane's heading. As the airplane continued, it impacted corn stalks bordering the airstrip. The collision caused substantial damage to the ribs of both wings and both ailerons.
Mechanical Status
The pilot stated that there were no mechanical failures or anomalies with any part of the airplane that would have prevented normal flight operations.
Weather Conditions
The pilot reported that the wind at the airstrip was calm.
