What happened
On August 9, 2016, at 21:00 EDT, a Delta Air Lines flight, operating as flight 442, was parked at the gate at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in Queens, New New York. The aircraft, a Boeing 737 with registration N3762Y, was in the process of passenger boarding for a scheduled flight to Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) when it was struck by a catering truck.
The collision caused substantial damage to the lower left fuselage of the aircraft. There were no injuries reported among the 160 passengers, six crewmembers, or the two ground service personnel involved.
At the time of the event, weather conditions were reported as night visual meteorological conditions (VMC) with a visibility of 10 statute miles and winds from 160 degrees at 10 knots.
