Incident Overview
On September 15, 2016, a Cessna 152 aircraft was involved in an incident in Kenya. The Kenya Air Accident Investigation Division (AAID) has taken charge of the investigation, as the incident occurred within its jurisdiction.
International Cooperation
The AAID notified the United States National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) of the incident. In accordance with ICAO Annex 13, which governs international aviation accident investigations, the NTSB has appointed a U.S. Accredited Representative to assist the AAID. This role is designated because the United States is the State of Manufacturer and Design for both the Cessna 152 airframe and its engine.
Investigative Authority
The AAID will be the primary authority releasing all investigative information related to this incident. The NTSB’s participation is limited to providing technical assistance as the state of design, under the framework established by international aviation protocols.
