Accident Overview
On September 24, 2016, at approximately 1132 local time, an Aviat Pitts S-2B airplane, bearing Republic of Korea registration HL1161, was destroyed following an impact with terrain during an airshow at Taean Airfield, Republic of Korea. The aircraft was operated by the pilot, who was the sole occupant. The pilot received fatal injuries.
Investigation
The Aviation and Railway Accident Investigation Board (ARAIB) of the Republic of Korea is conducting the investigation into the accident. As the state of manufacture of the airplane, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has designated a U.S. Accredited Representative under the provisions of Annex 13 to the Convention on Civil Aviation to assist the ARAIB in their investigation.
