Incident Overview
On October 16, 2016, at 1937 universal time coordinated, a Piper PA-23-250 twin-engine airplane, Peruvian registration OB-2039, made a precautionary landing at the Jaime Montreuil M. Airport (CHM) in Chimbote, Peru. The aircraft was not damaged during the landing. The pilot and the passenger were not injured.
Flight Details
The flight originated from the Captain Carlos Martinez De Pinillos/Trujillo International Airport (TRU) in Trujillo, Peru, and was destined for the Jorge Chávez International Airport (LIM) in Callao, Peru. According to Peruvian officials, while en route, the left engine experienced a loss of manifold pressure and an increase in oil temperature.
Pilot Actions
In response to the engine indications, the pilot shut down the left engine in flight, declared an emergency, and proceeded to divert to CHM. The aircraft landed without further incident.
