Accident Sequence
During the landing roll of a tailwheel-equipped airplane, the aircraft deviated from its intended path. According to the pilot, the airplane veered to the right. In an effort to correct the deviation, the pilot applied left rudder. However, the airplane continued its movement to the right, leading to a ground loop. The ground loop concluded with the left wing striking the runway surface.
Damage
The impact with the runway caused substantial damage to the left aileron. The extent of the damage was such that it rendered the aileron no longer airworthy without repair. No other damage to the airplane was reported.
Pilot Report
The pilot reported that there were no preaccident mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation. The sequence of events was attributed solely to the pilot's control inputs during the landing roll, as the airplane was otherwise functioning correctly. No other factors, such as weather conditions or runway surface issues, were mentioned in the pilot's account.
