Accident Overview
On December 11, 2016, at about 1157 Pacific standard time, a Beech A23-19, registration N7998L, was substantially damaged following a landing accident at Anacortes Airport (74S), Anacortes, Washington. The pilot, who was the sole occupant, was not injured. The flight was conducted as a personal flight under Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91.
Sequence of Events
According to a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) inspector who interviewed the pilot, during the landing roll the airplane began to swerve to the left. It continued off the runway, and during the excursion the left main landing gear separated from the aircraft.
Damage Assessment
The FAA inspector traveled to the accident site and examined the airplane. The aircraft sustained substantial damage to the left wing and the horizontal stabilizer.
Pilot and Maintenance History
The pilot did not provide a written statement and did not complete the NTSB Pilot/Operator Aircraft Accident/Incident Report Form 6120.1. Consequently, the pilot's flight experience and the airplane's maintenance history could not be determined from available information.
