Accident Details

On January 14, 2017, about 1400 mountain standard time, a Cessna T210M, registration N6366B, sustained substantial damage during a landing accident at Buckeye Municipal Airport (BXK) in Buckeye, Arizona. The private pilot, operating the airplane under Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 as a personal flight, was seriously injured.

The pilot reported that during the landing roll on runway 17, the airplane veered to the left. Despite applying flight control inputs, the airplane exited the runway and collided with terrain, causing the airplane to nose over and come to rest inverted.

Witness and Scene

An airport employee heard the airplane performing touch-and-go landings and then shortly after, heard the accident sequence. The employee reported tire marks approximately 1,400 feet from the approach end of runway 17 that continued left of the runway centerline for about 500 feet down the runway before exiting. The tire marks continued through the runway safety area, crossed over taxiway D, reentered the runway safety area, and ended where the airplane came to rest inverted.

Aircraft Examination

A postaccident examination revealed substantial damage to the aft fuselage, wings, and vertical stabilizer. Rudder and elevator control cable continuity was established from the cabin controls to their respective flight control attachment areas. Steering control continuity was confirmed from the rudder pedal controls to the steering whiffletree assembly (control quadrant).

The nose landing gear tire was deflated and exhibited impact marks on the sidewall. The airplane was supported off the ground while the main gear wheels were rotated by hand, showing free rotation with light rubbing of brake pads against the brake rotor. The brake rotors displayed normal wear patterns, and the brake pads had minimal wear. Brake pressure was applied through the brake pedals during rotation.

Postaccident examination found no evidence of a mechanical failure or malfunction that would have precluded normal operation.
