Notification and Response
The Transport Accident and Incident Investigation Bureau of Latvia has notified the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) of an incident involving a Boeing 737 that occurred on February 17, 2017. In response, the NTSB has appointed a U.S. Accredited Representative to assist in the investigation, as per the provisions of ICAO Annex 13.
Role of the NTSB
As the State of Manufacture and Design of the airplane, the NTSB is participating in the investigation. All investigative information will be released by the Transport Accident and Incident Investigation Bureau of Latvia, which is leading the inquiry.
Background
ICAO Annex 13 outlines international standards for aircraft accident and incident investigation. The appointment of an accredited representative allows the state of design to contribute expertise without assuming control of the investigation.
