Incident and Notification
An incident involving a Boeing 767 aircraft took place on March 19, 2017. The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) of the United Kingdom, the body responsible for investigating civil aviation accidents in the UK, notified the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) of the United States, the independent U.S. government agency that investigates transportation accidents, of this incident. In response, the NTSB appointed a U.S. Accredited Representative to assist the AAIB in the investigation.
Investigation Framework
This appointment was made under the provisions of ICAO Annex 13, which governs the investigation of aircraft accidents and incidents. Specifically, the United States is designated as the state of manufacturer and design for the Boeing 767, granting it the right to participate in the investigation. The AAIB will conduct the investigation and will release all factual information and findings.
Information Release
All investigative information will be released by the AAIB. The NTSB will provide support through its accredited representative as the state of design.
