Incident Overview
On April 14, 2017, at approximately 2045 coordinated universal time, a Cessna 172N aircraft, bearing Brazilian registration PR-LPW, was substantially damaged when it struck a tree about 400 meters from the threshold of runway 13 at Aeroporto de Cassilndia in Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. The aircraft was privately owned and operated.
Occupant Injuries
The pilot and passenger sustained fatal injuries as a result of the accident.
Damage
The aircraft experienced substantial damage due to the collision with the tree.
Investigation
The investigation falls under the jurisdiction of the Government of Brazil. The Aeronautical Accident Prevention and Investigation Center (CENIPA) is responsible for determining the circumstances of the accident.
