Incident Overview
A pilot of a tailwheel-equipped airplane reported a loss of directional control during the landing roll in crosswind conditions. According to the pilot, the airplane began to weathervane and slide sideways. He initially decided to go around, but when approximately two feet above the ground, he determined that the airplane could not climb quickly enough to clear nearby hangars on the east side of the runway and therefore pulled the power back. The airplane then touched down again, departed the left side of the runway, crossed a ditch, and came to rest on the taxiway.
Aircraft Damage
The airplane sustained substantial damage to the right wing. The pilot reported no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions that would have precluded normal operation.

The pilot reported the wind as variable at 10 to 15 knots with gusts to 15 knots. The landing was conducted on runway 34.
