Accident Summary
The pilot of an aerial application airplane reported that, during the initial climb immediately after becoming airborne, he initiated a left turn. He then encountered turbulence, which caused the left wing to dip. Despite applying full right aileron and rudder input, the airplane continued to descend and turn left. Subsequently, the left wing struck the ground, the aircraft cartwheeled, and a post-crash fire ensued.
Damage and Mechanical Status
The fuselage, empennage, and both wings sustained substantial damage as a result of the impact and the subsequent fire. The pilot stated that there were no preaccident mechanical malfunctions or failures that would have prevented normal operation of the airplane.
Weather Conditions
An automated weather observation station located 12 nautical miles south of the accident site reported, around the time of the accident, calm winds, clear skies, a temperature of 84°F (29°C), and a dew point of 64°F (18°C).
