What happened
On June 29, 2017, at approximately 0602 UTC, a Cessna 2CA with registration ZS-SOK was landing at Rand Airport (FAGM) in Germiston, South Africa. The aircraft had departed from Eagle's Creek Airfield in the Gauteng Province for a personal flight. During the landing phase, the left main landing gear collapsed, resulting in substantial damage to the aircraft. The pilot and one passenger were not injured.
The investigation
The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) Accident and Incident Investigations Division is conducting the investigation. The NTSB has appointed a US Accredited Representative to assist the SACAA, acting as the State of Manufacture and Design for both the airplane and the engine.
