Hard Landing Results in Nose Gear Collapse and Substantial Damage

Incident Overview

A pilot reported that during the landing approach, the airplane descended at a steep angle with a high descent rate. The aircraft touched the ground before the pilot initiated a flare, leading to a porpoising motion on the runway. Subsequently, the nose wheel tire burst and the nose gear strut partially collapsed.

The pilot brought the airplane to a stop on the runway and radioed for assistance.

Damage Assessment

The firewall and fuselage sustained substantial damage as a result of the landing.
