Accident Overview
A pilot reported that following a personal flight, he performed a three-point landing on runway 16 in a tailwheel-equipped airplane. During the landing flare, the airplane encountered a wind gust. After touchdown, the airplane exited the left side of the runway and ground looped to the left. The airplane then slid down an embankment, and the right wing struck the ground.
Damage
The accident resulted in substantial damage to the right-wing spar and aileron.
Weather Conditions
A METAR report from the airport indicated that the wind was from 180° at 5 knots, visibility was 10 statute miles, and skies were clear.
Pilot Report
The pilot stated that there were no preaccident mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
