Incident Overview
The pilot of a tailwheel-equipped biplane reported that, during the landing roll on a grass runway, the aircraft unexpectedly became inverted. Approximately halfway down the runway, the biplane "very quickly" turned upside down. After exiting the airplane, the pilot examined the runway surface and observed where the propeller had dug into the ground. Skid marks in the grass indicated that the brakes had been applied and locked.
Damage Assessment
The biplane sustained substantial damage to its vertical and horizontal stabilizers. The pilot stated that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions that would have precluded normal operation.

About the time of the incident, the automated weather observation system located approximately 1 nautical mile from the accident site reported wind from 230° at 7 knots, gusting to 14 knots. The pilot had landed on runway 31.
