Incident Overview

The pilot of a tailwheel-equipped biplane reported that, during the landing roll on a grass runway, the aircraft unexpectedly became inverted. Approximately halfway down the runway, the biplane "very quickly" turned upside down. After exiting the airplane, the pilot examined the runway surface and observed where the propeller had dug into the ground. Skid marks in the grass indicated that the brakes had been applied and locked.
