What happened
On September 30, 2017, an Air France Airbus A380, operating as flight AF 66, was en route from Paris, France, to Los Angeles, California, when a mechanical failure occurred. During the flight, the inlet and fan rotor of the No. 4 engine separated from the rest of the engine unit. The aircraft, registered as F-HPJE, diverted to Goose Bay, Canada, to perform an emergency landing. There were no injuries resulting from this event.

The aircraft is powered by Engine Alliance GP7200 engines. The investigation into the incident is being conducted under the jurisdiction and control of the French government.
