Incident Overview
On November 8, 2017, at approximately 1750 UTC, South African Airlink flight 8103, a British Aerospace BAE-146 RJ85A registered in South Africa as ZS-ASW, encountered an uncontained release of turbine material from the No. 2 engine while in cruise flight. The affected engine was a Honeywell LF507-1F turbofan.
Investigation
The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA), through its Accident and Incident Investigation Division (AAID), is conducting the investigation into this incident. As the state of manufacture of the engine, the United States National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has designated a U.S. accredited representative to assist the AAID with its investigation.
