Student Pilot Overcorrects During First Solo Landing, Strikes Hangar

Accident Overview

A student pilot reported that during her first solo landing, the glider was not aligned straight for the flare. She attempted to correct the alignment by applying right rudder, but subsequently overcorrected. The glider then veered to the right and collided with a hangar.

Aircraft Damage

The glider sustained substantial damage to the fuselage and both wings as a result of the impact.

Mechanical Condition

The student pilot reported that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions with the glider that would have precluded normal operation. The incident was attributed solely to pilot control inputs during the landing flare.
