What happened
On April 17, 2018, at approximately 1510 local time, a Garlick UH1H helicopter, registered as VH-HUE, struck terrain near Talbingo, Australia. The aircraft, which was being operated as a freight charter and was powered by a Textron Lycoming T-53 engine, was occupied by the pilot alone. The impact resulted in one serious injury to the pilot; there were no fatalities.
The investigation
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) is leading the investigation into the accident. Because the aircraft and engines were manufactured in the United States, the NTSB appointed a U.S. accredited representative to assist the ATSB with the inquiry.
