Accident Details
On January 9, 2020, at approximately 1620 universal coordinated time, a Garlick Helicopters Inc. UH-1H helicopter, registration VH-ONZ, experienced a loss of power. This occurred while the helicopter was engaged in an aerial fire control operation. Subsequently, the helicopter collided with water at Ben Boyd Reservoir, which is located near Boydtown, Merimbula, Australia.
Injuries and Damage
The pilot of the helicopter sustained minor injuries. The helicopter itself sustained substantial damage as a result of the collision.
Investigation
The investigation into this occurrence is being conducted under the jurisdiction of the Government of Australia. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) is the investigating body.
