Incident Overview
On June 10, 2018, at approximately 1215 local time, American Airlines Flight 181 (aircraft registration N826AN, a Boeing 787-9) was en route from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), California, to Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK), China, when a beverage cart overturned in the aft galley. Three pots of hot liquids spilled, causing burns to two flight attendants. The airplane was in smooth air with no turbulence at the time of the event.
Injuries and Response
Among the 292 passengers and crew onboard, one flight attendant sustained minor injuries and another sustained serious injuries. A physician who was a passenger provided initial treatment to the injured crew members. Upon arrival at the gate in Beijing, paramedics met the aircraft and transported one flight attendant to a hospital, where she was diagnosed with second-degree burns and subsequently released.
