Incident
On June 12, 2018, at about 1144 Mountain Standard Time, a Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration N8693A, was boarding at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (KPHX) in Phoenix, Arizona. The flight, operating as Southwest Airlines Flight 2344 under 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 121, was a regularly scheduled passenger service to Buffalo Niagara International Airport (KBUF) in Buffalo, New York. On board were two flight crew members, four flight attendants, and an unknown number of passengers.
The "B" position flight attendant was holding a pot of hot water when a passenger exiting the lavatory bumped into her. The pot splashed, causing hot water to contact her chest and face. The flight attendant sustained serious injuries.
Aftermath
The injured flight attendant was unable to perform her duties and was replaced. She was transported to a hospital, where medical personnel diagnosed her with second-degree burns. She was later released.
