Incident Overview
A flight instructor reported that during an instructional flight, the aircraft's radio and intercom systems failed. The instructor subsequently returned to the airport and received a green light from the air traffic controller in the tower, indicating permission to land.
Landing Sequence
During the touchdown, the airplane "ballooned," touched down again, and then veered to the right, resulting in a ground loop. The event caused substantial damage to the left wing of the aircraft.
Instructor's Report
The instructor noted that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation. The pilot did not submit the NTSB Form 6120.1 Pilot/Operator Aircraft Accident/Incident Report.
