Incident Overview
A flight instructor reported that during a night takeoff roll, the student pilot, who was on the controls, struck a deer on the runway with the airplane's left wing. After the collision, the instructor and student pilot maneuvered the airplane off the runway without further incident.
Damage
The left wing of the airplane sustained substantial damage as a result of the impact with the deer.
Mechanical Condition
The flight instructor stated that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
