What happened
On July 28, 2018, a VANS RV9, registration N899RV, was involved in an accident in Holland, Michigan. During the landing phase, the pilot experienced a bounce on the runway. In response, the pilot initiated a go-around procedure. During this maneuver, the aircraft veered to the left, touched the ground again, and subsequently impacted trees. The pilot was not injured.
The investigation
The investigation found that the aircraft sustained substantial damage to both wings. The pilot reported that there were no mechanical failures or malfunctions occurring prior to the accident that would have prevented the aircraft from operating normally.
