Accident Details
A pilot flying a tailwheel-equipped airplane reported that during the landing, the airplane ballooned and subsequently touched down on the left side of the runway centerline. The airplane then exited the left side of the runway. To avoid colliding with an airplane on a nearby taxiway, the pilot applied hard braking in the grass safety area. This caused the airplane to nose over.
Damage
The accident resulted in substantial damage to the vertical stabilizer and rudder.
Pilot Report
The pilot stated that the accident was a result of pilot error and nothing else. Additionally, the pilot reported that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
