Synopsis
The pilot of an airplane reported that during the landing roll on runway 8, he observed the right wing lifting and the airplane drifting to the left. Following touchdown, the airplane veered left and departed the runway surface, subsequently striking trees. The accident resulted in substantial damage to the wings and fuselage. No preaccident mechanical issues were identified by the pilot.
Narrative
According to the pilot, while over the runway during landing, he believed the right wing lifted slightly and the airplane drifted leftward. The airplane touched down and then continued to veer left. The pilot applied right rudder in an attempt to correct the deviation. However, the airplane exited the left side of the runway and collided with trees. The pilot reported that there were no mechanical failures or malfunctions before the accident that would have prevented normal operation.
Weather Conditions
The automated weather observation system at the airport provided wind information around the time of the accident. The wind was reported as variable at 5 knots. The landing was conducted on runway 8.
Damage Assessment
The airplane sustained substantial damage to both wings and the fuselage as a result of the impact with trees.
