Event Summary
A pilot of a tailwheel-equipped airplane reported that, following a 3-point landing, the airplane ground looped during the landing roll. According to the pilot, the wind changed direction, lifting the left wing and causing the aircraft to veer uncontrollably.
Damage
The airplane sustained substantial damage to the right wing and elevator. The pilot noted that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions that would have prevented normal operation.
Weather Conditions
The automated weather observation system at the airport recorded wind conditions before and after the event. Approximately 20 minutes prior, the wind was from 200 degrees at 7 knots. About 35 minutes afterward, the wind was from 230 degrees at 7 knots. The pilot reported that the wind shifted to a right crosswind at the time of the accident. The airplane had landed on runway 36.
