What happened
On May 2, 2018, at 08:45 local time, a pilot was conducting a scheduled training flight in a Tecnam P2008 JC in the vicinity of Rzeszów Airport (EPRZ). Following standard pre-flight procedures and receiving takeoff clearance from Rzeszów Tower, the pilot began the takeoff roll. During the acceleration phase, the engine began to misfire. In response to the engine instability, the pilot aborted the takeoff and taxied the aircraft to a hangar.
The investigation
Following the incident, technical personnel inspected the aircraft. The maintenance team performed an adjustment of the fuel level in the left carburetor chamber and subsequently conducted an engine test, which confirmed that the engine was operating correctly. All relevant maintenance actions and findings were recorded in the aircraft's technical logbook. The investigation found no irregularities in the pilot's documentation or training records. Atmospheric conditions at the time of the event were not a contributing factor.
Findings
- The engine malfunction was caused by an excessive fuel level in the left carburetor chamber.
- This condition was likely caused by a sticking inlet valve.
