Overview
A pilot reported an accident during landing that involved a gusting crosswind from the right. The aircraft was configured with 0° flaps and was at an indicated airspeed of approximately 55 knots when it reached 5 feet above ground level (AGL). The pilot noted that the airspeed was insufficient for the gusting right crosswind conditions, leading to a hard landing on the runway.
Sequence of Events
On approach, the pilot encountered a crosswind from the right with gusts. At 5 feet AGL, the airspeed was about 55 knots. The pilot reported that the airplane landed hard. As a result, the right main landing gear wheel separated from the airplane during the landing, and the airplane exited the runway to the right.
Damage
The airplane sustained substantial damage to the right main landing gear attachment points and the monocoque structure of the cabin.

According to the METAR at the airport around the time of the accident, the wind was from 140° at 11 knots, gusting to 19 knots.
