Incident

On November 5, 2018, at approximately 1019 mountain standard time, two Piper PA28-181 aircraft collided on the ground at Chandler Municipal Airport (CHD) in Chandler, Arizona. The aircraft involved were N419PA and N9299B, both operated by AeroGuard Flight Training Center under Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91.

Circumstances

According to the operator, the student pilot of N419PA had landed and was taxiing back to the runway for takeoff. Meanwhile, the pilot of N9299B, who was undergoing a practical test, was stationary in the run-up area completing pre-takeoff checks. The student pilot arrived at the run-up area, finished pre-takeoff checks, and then attempted to taxi around the left side of the second airplane. During this maneuver, the right wing of N419PA impacted the trailing edge of the left wing of N9299B.

Damage

Examination by a Federal Aviation Administration inspector revealed that N9299B sustained substantial damage to the left aileron, while N419PA sustained minor damage to the right wing.

Occupants

The student pilot onboard N419PA and the student pilot and airline transport pilot onboard N9299B were not injured.
