Accident Details
During a landing in crosswind conditions, a tailwheel-equipped airplane veered left after touchdown. Despite the pilot's application of opposite rudder and brake, the airplane continued left, departed the runway, and collided with a runway sign.
Pilot Report
The pilot reported that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
Weather Information
At the time of the accident, the automated weather observation system at the airport reported wind from 320° at 8 knots. The pilot was landing on runway 29.
Damage
The airplane sustained substantial damage to the fuselage and empennage as a result of the collision with the runway sign.
