Incident Overview
On March 24, 2019, an Indigo Airbus A320, powered by two Pratt & Whitney PW1127G-JM geared turbofan engines, experienced issues with the No. 2 (right) engine while en route from Amritsar, India to Guwahati, India. The flight crew received an intermittent ECAM caution indicating high engine vibration in the No. 2 engine. The engine continued to operate normally and was not shut down during the flight.
Post-Landing Inspection
Following a safe landing, a detailed inspection of the No. 2 engine was conducted. The inspection identified damage to the high pressure compressor stages 7 and 8 blades. The extent and cause of the damage are under investigation.
Investigation
The government of India has notified the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) of the incident. As the state of manufacture of the engine, the NTSB has appointed a U.S. Accredited Representative to assist the government of India's investigation under the provisions of ICAO Annex 13. All investigative information will be released by the government of India.
