Incident Description
On March 29, 2019, a Boeing 787 aircraft, powered by two General Electric GEnx 1B64P2 turbofan engines and operated by Jetstar Airways, encountered a dual engine event during its descent to Kansai International Airport (RJBB) in Osaka, Japan. According to the initial report, while descending, the flight crew observed unstable indications from the No. 2 (right) engine. Subsequently, the No. 1 (left) engine produced lower thrust than commanded, followed by the No. 2 engine also producing lower thrust than commanded.
Investigation
The Japan Transport Safety Board (JTSB) is conducting an investigation into the event. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is participating as the U.S. Annex 13 Accredited Representative, given that the United States is the state of design and manufacture for the airplane and its engines.
