Accident Details
The pilot of an aerial application aircraft reported that while approaching a field, he briefly looked away from the intended flight line just before entering. As a result, the airplane's landing gear contacted the top wire of a wire obstruction and was pulled downward toward the field. The pilot attempted to recover by pulling back sharply on the control stick and advancing the power. The airplane became airborne momentarily, but then the left wing was suddenly and violently forced back into the corn crop. The pilot applied right rudder in an effort to lift the wing out of the field and was able to maintain flight for a short period. However, the airplane experienced another sudden yanking motion and subsequently impacted the ground.
Damage and Fire
Following the impact, a fire broke out and consumed the entire airplane, resulting in its destruction.

The pilot stated that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airplane that would have prevented normal operation.
