Accident Overview
A pilot flying a tailwheel-equipped airplane reported an accident during a landing attempt at a remote unimproved airstrip. The pilot overshot the intended touchdown point by approximately 150 feet during the landing. As the airplane continued its landing roll, it veered to the right side of the runway, prompting the pilot to initiate a go-around.
Go-Around and Stall
During the initial climb of the go-around, the pilot observed that the airplane would not clear trees ahead. In response, the pilot pulled up abruptly, which caused the airplane to enter an aerodynamic stall. The left wing then descended and struck trees, and the airplane spun 180 degrees before impacting the ground.
Damage and Mechanical Status
The airplane sustained substantial damage to both wings, the empennage, and the fuselage. The pilot reported that there were no mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
