Overview
During the takeoff roll, the pilot reported that the airplane's trim was set to a significant nose-up attitude. This configuration caused the airplane to depart the runway surface prematurely.
Sequence of Events
After leaving the runway, the airplane climbed to an altitude of approximately 10 ft above ground level. At that height, the aircraft entered an aerodynamic stall. The airplane then descended and impacted the runway. The impact resulted in an engine fire.
Occupant Egress and Damage
All occupants were able to egress the airplane without reported difficulty. The aircraft sustained substantial damage, including damage to both wings and the fuselage.
Pilot Statement
The pilot reported that there were no mechanical malfunctions or failures that would have precluded normal operation of the airplane. The trim setting was the only pilot-reported condition during the takeoff roll.
