Accident Overview
The pilot reported that during the approach to the destination airport, the engine lost power. Despite attempting to restart the engine, the pilot was unsuccessful. The airplane then impacted a perimeter fence located short of the runway.
Pilot's Account
After the accident, the pilot examined the airplane and discovered that the fuel supply had been exhausted. The pilot stated that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions that would have precluded normal operation.
Aircraft Damage
As a result of the impact with the fence, the airplane sustained substantial damage to both wings.
Investigation Findings
The pilot's post-accident inspection revealed that the engine power loss was caused by fuel exhaustion. No other mechanical issues were identified.
