Accident Overview
A pilot reported that shortly after rotation from a private grass runway, a gust of wind pushed the airplane to the left. The airplane continued left, exited the runway, and the left wing struck a tree. The airplane then impacted terrain. The pilot stated that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
Pilot Report
According to the pilot, the wind at the time of takeoff was from 220° at 10 knots, gusting to 19 knots. The airplane departed to the southeast. The pilot did not specify any other conditions.
Aircraft Damage
The airplane sustained substantial damage to both wings as a result of the impact. The extent of damage to other parts of the aircraft was not reported.
